Your Lock Screen is the screen you see most often. With a widget, it can show a new verse of the Quran every day, in Arabic with its translation, without opening any app. Here's how to set it up.
What you need
- An iPhone with iOS 16 or later (Lock Screen widgets arrived in iOS 16).
- The free Ayah Widget app from the App Store.
Step 1: Set up the app
- Install Ayah Widget and open it once.
- Choose your language and the moods you'd like verses for, such as hope, patience or gratitude.
Opening the app once matters: widgets only appear in the widget list after the app has run at least one time.
Step 2: Add the verse to your Lock Screen
- Unlock your iPhone with Face ID or Touch ID, but stay on the Lock Screen.
- Touch and hold the Lock Screen until Customize appears, then tap it.
- Tap Lock Screen.
- Tap the widget area below the time (it says Add Widgets if it's empty).
- Scroll to Ayah Widget, or search for it, and tap the widget you want.
- Close the widget panel and tap Done.
The Lock Screen has limited space, so the larger rectangular widget is the best fit for a verse.
Step 3: Add a bigger verse to your Home Screen
- Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen until the apps jiggle.
- Tap Edit in the top corner, then Add Widget. On iOS 16 and 17, tap the + button instead.
- Search for Ayah Widget.
- Swipe to choose small, medium or large, then tap Add Widget.
- Drag it where you want it and tap Done.
The medium and large sizes have room for the full Arabic text and the translation.
If the widget doesn't appear
- Open the app once, then try again.
- Check your iOS version in Settings, General, About. Lock Screen widgets need iOS 16 or later.
- Restart your iPhone if the widget list still doesn't show Ayah Widget.
A verse to start with
Who have believed and whose hearts have rest in the remembrance of Allah. Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest
